Zylinde, the daughter of the sylph queen (who is also a power-hungry, manipulative, murderous dictator, we'll get to that) flees to the human world every day at dusk when passage is allowed to escape her mother's control, since her mother is trying to marry her off for more power.
While in the city, she comes across a poster for the local ballet company's production of La Sylphide which is currently being performed with a rising star in the lead. Curious, Zylinde dons what sylphs call "a holster" which is an imitation of a human skin and goes to attend a performance.
No surprises, Zylinde becomes extremely fascinated with not just the human view of sylphs but with the girl dancing the role of the sylphide. As is true per La Sylphide canon, too, she begins stalking the ballerina in her holster, trying to learn more about her.
Something that Sofia, the ballerina in question, notices and eventually confronts her about, thinking she might be a crazy fan.
However, after talking to her, Sofia is also fascinated by this strange girl whom she doesn't know is a real sylph and for a while they develop a friendship in the human world.
However, back in her mother's realm, Zylinde is being watched closely by her mother's advisors and they warn her mother of her activities. So Zylinde is called to her mother's throne room for a scolding and is threatened that either she will start acting like a proper sylph princess or she will be married off to become one.
Knowing her mother means business, Zylinde flees to the human world one last time, intent on seeking help from Sofia, whom she believes might be the key to stopping her mother for good, due to an old prophecy.
So she explains the situation to the ballerina who reacts with disbelief, but eventually Sofia, who has fallen in love with Zylinde, agrees to go with her back to the realm of the sylphs to confront her mother and explain their situation to her...
